As some of you will well know, since 2006, when 1st Alton Manor Scout Group was formed, the Group have had a dream of one day having our own purpose built community centre in which the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts could all meet along, with the wider community. A couple of years ago we embarked on a reduced scale of this dream by purchasing the porta-cabins in which we currently meet.
However, driven by our chairman, Malcolm Gee, the Executive Committee have continued to work hard and looked at many avenues in which we could achieve our objective of a brick built building.
I have great pleasure in now announcing that this dream has become a reality. We have been donated a sum of £100.000 (One hundred thousand pounds) for our project, at this time I am not able to name the source of the money until their permission has been obtained, however this money, in conjunction with money the Group currently has in the bank accounts will allow us to complete our building.
Much work now begins, but this donation represents a massive opportunity for our Group to move forward and establish ourselves as a Group others look up to.
The first stages of our project moving forward is the setting up of a Building Project – Sub Committee and we invite anybody who would be interested in joining this committee to come along to our meeting on Wednesday 18th April, 7:45pm at the Community Centre.
I am more than happy to share this information with you all, who are equally invited to join our sub-committee and we would particularly welcome anybody with skill sets within the building and trade industry such as project managers, surveyors, architects, builders, electricians, plumbers etc.
Please share our exciting news with parents and children alike and hopefully we will have more good news in the future.
Yours in Scouting
